ADMEI Awards 2014 – Joanne O’Connor President’s Award
Congratulations to this years winner of the Joanne O’Connor President’s Award, Bent Hadler, DMCP of Handler DMC out of Copenhagen, Denmark.
This award is given annually to a DMC Executive who has exhibited exceptional professionalism and dedication to the DMC industry. Each year the winner is chosen by the current President of ADME and named in honor of Joanne O’Connor, the founder of Chicago Is…, was the first President of ADME.
The Association of Destination Management Executives International (ADMEI) is dedicated to increasing the professionalism and effectiveness of destination management through education, promotion of ethical practices and availability of information to the meetings, convention and incentive travel industries.
Celebrating 1980s-Style at Navy Pier!
Strawberry Shortcake, break dancers, Billy Idol and more! This event celebrated the icons and legends of that decadent decade. Nostalgia was in the night air as guests enjoyed a night under the stars. The fun continued inside the Grand Ballroom with dancing!
Sports and Spectacles at Chicago’s Soldier Field
Trumpets sounded and drums rumbled to welcome guests as they made their way inside the home of the Chicago Bears, Soldier Field. As guests entered through the historic Colonnades, they were greeted by the energetic Percy L. Julian High School Marching Band. As they passed through the entrance to the United Club, a lively cheerleader shouted their praises. A Harry Caray impersonator had guests in stitches; while a Coach Mike Ditka impersonator laid down the law and the Chicago “Superfans” regaled guests will stories of “Da Bears and Da Bulls.” On the Jumbotron inside the stadium, guests saw their company name in lights. The highlight of the night was an awe-inspiring performance by the Jesse White Tumbling Team. This evening of sports and spectacles was one that guests will never forget!
Modern Elegance at the Art Institute’s New Modern Wing
At this exciting event at the new and innovative Modern Wing of the Art Institute of Chicago guests were treated to an evening of world-class art and architecture, sumptuous cuisine and unique entertainment. Blue and violet hues transformed the pure, unadorned space of Griffin Court, creating a warm ambiance. Lounge furniture and luxurious florals enhanced the surroundings, as the sounds of Spanish guitars wafted through the open space. At Terzo Piano, guests enjoyed some of the best views of the Chicago skyline and Millennium Park that the city has to offer. It was truly an evening to remember.
Aquatic Luxury at Navy Pier’s Grand Ballroom
Chicago Is… produced a reception with over 1,200 guests for a leading medical imaging manufacturer at Navy Pier’s stunning Grand Ballroom. Lush aquatic-themed decor created a soothing ambiance as guests enjoyed the live entertainment, which performed behind an impressive water wall. Cool linen tones, innovative lounge vignetttes and striking floral arrangments transported guests to an underwater paradise.
Stylish Lounge at the Adler Planetarium
The Adler Planetarium was transformed into a sultry and sophisticated lounge on the evening of December 1, 2008. Guests enjoyed cocktails and a sumptuous hors d’oeuvres reception amidst the elegant backdrop of the glittering Chicago skyline. Twinkling votives perched in Manzanita branch chandeliers created a warm and inviting ambiance. Lush red lighting, sleek red linens, and luxurious textured chocolate and cream-colored linens accented the space with a muted opulence. Inventive floral arrangements lent a whimsical element to the elegant ambiance. Guests certainly got the star treatment at this event!
Modern Sophistication Meets Classic Elegance at The Art Institute of Chicago
On October 22, 2008, 300 guests from a top professional financial services firm gathered at the world-famous Art Institute of Chicago for an unforgettable evening. At the Michigan Avenue entrance, guests paused to admire the regal Art Institute Lions. As guests entered, they were greeted by servers passing cocktails, wine and hors d’oeuvres in the foyer leading to the impressive Grand Staircase. Warm jewel-toned linens enhanced the already noble ambiance, while the soothing sounds of jazz music flowed through the hallways and galleries. The guests enjoyed the European and American Galleries that were open for their viewing, then proceeded to the stunningly beautiful Adler & Sullivan-designed Stock Exchange Trading Room for dinner. Dinner stations and bars were set up throughout the Trading Room, and guest tables were adorned with elegant florals. Following dinner, guests relaxed in the ultra-modern dessert lounge that was created in the courtyard garden. The garden was tented and dramatically transformed to create a sultry, hip urban lounge atmosphere. The event was certainly an innovative combination of the classic and modern, and was executed with great élan and finesse.
